ABOUT US

Our Mission

The Autistic Activist Network (AAN) is dedicated to empowering and advocating for autistic individuals in Ireland. Our mission focuses on three core goals:

  • Education: Equipping autistic people, their caregivers, and stakeholders with knowledge about their rights in the economy and society.

  • Advocacy: Defending and vindicating autistic individuals' rights, particularly in the workplace and in accessing social services.

  • Trade Union Involvement: Promoting inclusive practices by fostering connections between autistic individuals and the Irish Trade Union Movement.

What We Stand For

The AAN is built on the principles of inclusion, understanding, and recognition of diverse needs within the autistic community. Our approach is informed by a commitment to social and economic justice for all autistic people, their caregivers, and service providers.

Why We Exist

Despite the growing awareness of autism, pervasive discrimination and social exclusion persist in Irish workplaces and society. With 1.5% of Ireland's population identified as autistic, barriers to employment, fair treatment, and adequate services remain significant. By addressing these challenges, the AAN aims to build a more inclusive society.

Our Work

  • Education: We develop accessible resources on rights at work and in society.

  • Advocacy: Supporting autistic individuals in resolving workplace disputes, securing accommodations, and accessing social services.

  • Collaboration: Working with trade unions, caregivers, employers, and policymakers to create systemic change.

A Whole-of-Society Approach

The AAN will collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government bodies, trade unions and social service providers.
